ELEMENTS OF LITERATURE
Inference means using knowledge and information to come to conclusions.

When you use clues in the story to figure out the meaning of a new word.

A conclusion is a decision a reader makes after considering all the information give.

There are three different choices – first person, second person, and a variety of third person point of views.

When reading, ask yourself WHY WAS THIS WRITTEN?

A cause tells WHY something happens.
An effect is WHAT happens. |
Comparing means finding how things are alike. Contrasting means finding how things are different.

Most of the stories you read are told in order that usually tells you what happened first, second, and so on.
